How To Plan For Group Travels

Planning group travels can be tricky as there are many personalities to deal with. There will be some disagreement  as everyone has his or her own opinions and preferences, which is perfectly common.

Based on our experience of organising group travels, here are some tips that we would like to share.

1. Determine the group size

Ideally the group size should be somewhere between 4-6 people. But, if you're planning a travel group of more than 6, go for an even number if possible. It is easier to split the group into smaller groups for transportation and  accommodation purpose.

2. Who are your travel companions
It is important to know who are you traveling with as they can make or break a traveling trip. We are the regular travel planners for friends and family. Traveling with friends are easier as our interests are somewhat alike and everyone tends to go along with the group flow. Now, the challenging part is planning for family trips. Our age group is a far range from a 2 year old kid to a 93 year old granny. Once you have identified your travel companions, you will avoid mistakes like bringing a 2 year old to visit a museum to admire history artifacts and a 93 year old granny to an amusement park filled with screaming kids.

3. Location
The big question is, where should we go? Normally, our traveling peers will pick places based on cheap airfare, somewhere more exotic and exciting . For family trips, the safest bets are city trips and holiday resorts. In other words, a place that is conveniently located with all amenities, plenty to do in the day and long hours of dinner and supper throughout the night.

4. Majority rules
When making decisions for any group travel, ignore the whims and whams of the prima donna, as there will  surely be one in the group.  The golden rule is, the majority wins! Or nothing will move along and you can kiss the traveling plans goodbye.

5. Enjoy yourself
Whether you're surrounded by a prima donna who does her one hour make-up before sight-seeing or kids chasing and screaming one another, fret not. Just take deep breath, smile and enjoy yourself.
